The Pokémon Go Sinnoh region celebration event begins Friday, February 7 at 8 a.m. to Monday, February 10 at 10 p.m. local time. Let's see in details.
February is off to a hot start for Pokémon Go. To kick it off, you have the chance to start working towards earning encounters with Woobat by completing research tasks. All you need to is complete a research task from PokéStops and completing them once a day to receive the Woobat encounter on the seventh day, in addition to the new A Professor’s Work is Never Done special research task. Later this month, a Sinnoh Region Celebration is happening that focuses on select Pokémon from the region, along with highlight Riolu and Hippopotas, giving you an increased chance to find shiny versions of them.
Shiny Riolu and Shiny Hippopotas will begin appearing in Pokémon Go when the Sinnoh celebration event starts. While it's not clear if Riolu and Hippopotas will appear more frequently in the wild - the latter is more likely - both will appear more frequently in 7km Eggs when the pool changes with the event. Both Pokémon may also be rewards for specific research tasks, but we'll update when we learn more. Shiny Riolu changes its coloring from blue to gold, while Shiny Hippopotas' coloring becomes more saturated.
Event features
Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region will be appearing more often in the wild and in raids.
All 7 km Eggs obtained during the event period will exclusively hatch certain Pokémon from the Sinnoh region, including Budew, Combee, Bronzor, Gible, Riolu, Hippopotas, and Mantyke.
Event-specific Field Research tasks will reward you with encounters with Pokémon that were originally discovered in this beautiful region, as well as Sinnoh Stones.
And last but not least, if you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Riolu or a Shiny Hippopotas!
On top of that, two new Shiny Pokemon will make their debut in Pokemon Go. You'll have your first chance to encounter Shiny versions of Riolu and Hippopotas during the Sinnoh celebration. Event-specific Field Research tasks will also be available, and completing these will net you rewards such as Sinnoh Stones, which are required to evolve certain Pokemon like Electabuzz, Magmar, Magneton, and others.
Not only that, but completing Field Research tasks specific to the event will reward encounters with other Pokemon from this “beautiful” region, along with Sinnoh Stones that can be used to make certain Pokemon evolve.
Lastly, the official Pokemon Go blog post detailing the event notes that “if you’re lucky” it’s possible to encounter and capture a rare Shiny Riolu or a Shiny Hippopotas during the Sinnoh region celebration.
