According to 2K Intel on Twitter, it appears that the NBA 2K22 standard edition cover featuring Doncic has leaked. The account deleted the tweet featuring the image below, but it wasn’t the first time we have heard that Doncic would be on this year’s cover.
 
And to make things even more exciting for Mavs fans, Doncic might not be the only Maverick to be on a 2K cover this year. According to a rumor from a well-known gaming leaks Reddit channel, Mavs icon Dirk Nowitzki could be gracing the 2K22 Legend Edition cover. Last year, New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson was 2K’s Standard Edition cover athlete, and the late, great Kobe Bryant was the Legend Edition cover athlete.
 
While nothing is confirmed at the time of this article and it could be just a mockup, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for the Slovenian-born forward to grace the 2K22 cover. Especially given the high probability that former Mavs euro-star Dirk Nowitzki will cover the Legends edition of the game. The rumor was all but confirmed by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier a few weeks ago.
 
This would be the first time that a Dallas Maverick graced the cover of an NBA 2K game. Since being selected third overall in 2018, Doncic wasted no time picking up where future hall-of-famer Nowitzki left off. The 21-year-old phenom has taken the league by storm in his three short years in the association. Doncic has already racked up two All-star appearances, Rookie of the Year, and All-Rookie/All-NBA nods.
 
It would be quite something to see both Luka Doncic and Dirk Nowitzki on the covers for the same game, even more so considering Dirk was never really the type of player to get consideration for a cover during his playing days.
