The big expansion of Neverwinter is going to be released on PC on July 27th and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Fall 2021. This expansion is being called Jewel of the North, which will bring a Bard Class, a new level-up system and more!

 

“With Jewel of the North, we want to make it easier than ever for players to create a character and embark on the adventure of the Forgotten Realms,” said Matt Powers, Executive Producer of Neverwinter. “The level up has been optimized and now corresponds more to the tabletop Dungeons & Dragons. We’re also really excited to have the extroverted Bard class perform in Neverwinter. “
 
According to Cryptic Studios, The Jewel of the North update will introduce the Bard class to Neverwinter, which was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons in the 5th edition of the game and was not available when Neverwinter released (which was originally based on the 4th edition rules). Bards can select one of two Paragon Paths, Songblade or Minstrel, which gives players the opportunity to choose between melee and ranged attacks. The Bard's powers will be based on the power of music, allowing the player to buff and heal allies, or even enchant weapons.
 
Bards are a D&D staple, and Cryptic is hoping to provide players with an expressive, heavily customizable take on the archetype that tabletop players will find familiar. With a kit designed for deft swordplay, high mobility, and a touch of magic to augment damage and party support, the bard class stands as one of Neverwinter's most versatile offerings. Players who prefer natural-born performers, rakish minstrels, and jacks of all trades will find themselves right at home.
 
The level system overhaul in Neverwinter is a game-changer for anyone building a new character or picking up the game for the first time. Originally, the maximum level cap for Neverwinter was 80. This made accessing epic-level content a grind and created a large gap between new players and veterans. Now, with Cryptic Studios taking inspiration from traditional D&D mechanics, the maximum level cap has been set at 20. This means players can quickly access everything the game has to offer, increasing playability for those who didn't have time to work their way through the previous level system.
