Welcome to the “wave drop method” in Apex Legends. Basically, this method of wave dropping allows you to glide to increased distances and speed over the Apex Legends map of King’s Canyon. Here’s how to gonna do it:

Drop straight down until you reach a speed of roughly 145 (Some players have reported 140 as a better speed to drop to vs. 145)
Glide horizontally until you are going between 130-135
Drop straight down to gain more speed
Glide outwards to make sure you will reach your destination
Drop straight down on your destination

You get a bigger speed boost by diving straight down the higher up you are. The closer to the ground you are, the less boost you'll get by diving straight down.
 
The ship moves faster than you could ever possibly hope to with your jets. If your goal is along the jump ship's path, it's better to wait until you're closer (read: not on top of it).
 
Fall speed tops out at much faster than you can go with jets facing straight down. It's not intuitive, but as long as you can cancel the dive really high up by running into a cliff-face, you'll beat everyone to artillery as long as you don't land on any ledges on the way down. :P
 
If you're playing as Mirage, don't forget to send your decoys out while you fall! Also, enjoy the reactions of randoms in your squad. Several times I've gotten randoms splitting off after my decoys to get an easy early punch-out kill only to be left disappointed, lootless, and ashamed. If you're a random squad-mate, please disregard this tip because I love bamboozling even in my own squad.
 
Last, landing speed is also factored by altitude.. One thing you'll want to finesse around are cliffs and other tall objects. When you get close to a surface, Apex triggers an air brake animation that massively decelerates you and your teammates, preparing you to land. If your flight path takes you past a cliff, retain as much altitude as you can to avoid flying right near the top of it.
